Why Is This Important?

Parent mental health is important in ASD families for several reasons.  For one thing, mental health status indicates how parents are faring as they cope with the stresses of having a child with an ASD.  In addition, researchers are interested in genetic factors: do anxiety and ASDs run together in some families?  Or is it the stress of having a child with an ASD that contributes to anxiety in fathers?
