Why Is This Important?

Researchers want to find out whether issues of attention and/or hyperactivity often occur in families who have a child with an ASD.  To what extent are such traits found in children with ASDs, their parents, and siblings?

Data from IAN Research:

Pie chart showing the percentage of unaffected siblings who have been diagnosed with or treated for AD/HD.

This chart shows that 11% of all siblings without ASDs taking part in IAN Research, at some time in their lives, have been diagnosed with or treated for either AD/HD or ADD.

Pie chart showing the percentage of unaffected siblings aged 10 to 18 who have been diagnosed with or treated for AD/HD.

This chart shows that 21% of siblings aged 10 to 18 taking part in IAN Research, at some time in their lives, have been diagnosed with or treated for either AD/HD or ADD.  (It is important to consider older children especially, since they are more likely to have experienced various issues than younger children.)
