hi everyone. i have a 16 year old with aspergers. his psychiatrist prescribed prozac for him. i understand it will take a while to see a difference. he has some OCD issues that come and go. his major thing is his anxiety that keeps him from going to school and functioning normally. has anyone ever tried prozac for aspergers issues? im trying to find some information on the two. my sons been on so many different medication combos in the past, nothing ever worked for him. we are hopeful that this new doctor will help him. any feedback on taking the prozac for aspergers would be helpful. thanks so much!

Hi OneDayAtATime.

I hope our readers will share their experience with you regarding teens on the autism spectrum and Prozac.

Just a reminder to everyone: each person's response to medication is different, so learn from others' stories, but keep in mind that your experience may not be the same. For example, my son with Asperger's is on Risperdal, which has been incredibly helpful to him, but I have known families who tried Risperdal and found it to be completely unhelpful.

OneDayAtATime, you might be interested in this article on the use of antipsychotics (also called neuroleptics) in autism. Although you are trying an antidepressant, some of the general information in the article may prove helpful:
