Has anyone tried glutathione and had their son/daughter's sleep patterns get thrown out of whack? This is the second night in a row that my son has woken up around 2:30am and stayed awake for the duration of the day. He has been in great spirits and is aware/coherent but my wife and I are not.

Hi Ted, and welcome to IAN.

I can find a little bit in the medical literature about hypotheses regarding oxidative stress in autism, with glutathione mentioned as playing a possible role. However, I can find nothing about any kind of treatment based on glutathione, or its potential side effects -- so these likely have not undergone clinical trials up to this point.

If some of our readers have used it, I hope they will share their experience here.

Thanks for the response Connie and sorry for the late reply. My wife and I started a glutathione treatment with our son Aidan and it did make him very hyper and sleepless. From what we could gather from other websites and blogs, glutathione does stir up yeast in these kids which can make them hyper and off the wall.

We've been using N-ACETYLCYSTINE (NAC) for the past few weeks and Aidan has been sleeping great. Eye contact is fantastic and his awareness/interactivity very good as well.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for everyone.

Good luck all!

-Ted
