A new study just published in the Journal of Pediatrics screened 219 babies who were born in 1995 and were extremely preterm, less than 26 weeks gestation.
At followup 8% of all the babies (16 out of 219)examined met diagnostic criteria for an ASD.
We are still developing an IAN Pregnancy and Birth Questionnaire. We hope to collect a huge set of data from IAN families on their experiences surrounding pregnancy and birth: everything from in vitro fertilization to ultrasounds to meds taken to induced labor. This should help a variety of researchers explore multiple hypotheses regarding any association between pregnancy and birth related factors and autism.
