We've been giving our son Aidan Enhansa from Silsby Labs as an anti fungal with good results at first. Language was increased and so was interaction.

Lately, he has been extra stimmy (vocal stimms an SIB/finger biting). We read that Enhansa was high in phenols and we've given Aidan supplements to combat that as well. We're afraid to double up the supplement that combat the phenol but we're also loosing sleep as Aidan now stays up until 1am and sometimes 3am.

Any thoughts would be great help.

Hi Ted, and sorry to hear your son is having trouble with stimming and sleep.

I'm afraid I can't find anything in the medical literature about this supplement which looks like it is one of the "complementary and alternative" therapies that families are using. The use of such therapies is of course very common in autism. Unfortunately, many of these have not yet been tested in a systematic and nonbiased way, so it's hard for parents to know if they are OK to try.

Of course, if you are a participant in IAN Research, you can report on your experience with the treatment in a way that is useful to researchers. Our "Treatment Questionnaires" capture families' experiences on over 300 treatments, including complementary and alternative ones. In fact, if we don't list a treatment, a family can add it, so even approaches we haven't even heard about yet can be reported on.

One thing I can point you to is our article on how to evaluate treatments you are trying: http://www.iancommunity.org/cs/therapies_treatments/evaluating_treatments
