I recently attended a detailed meeting, held at my sons' school, on what Best Practices means for our school's autism-specific program. Our school provides exposure to many different treatments for speech, communication and behaviors. When a child, in the team's opinion, shows progress with one treatment, that particular option is emphasized with that child. Ideally, this allows for greater customization. I like the concept. Especially since, from personal experience, I know how divergent two people with the same disorder can be. Anecdotally, one of my sons has done really well, while my other son struggles to make academic gains.
Two problems that arise is that some strategies are overused and data collection often falls by the wayside. Do you have any information on schools that use this approach? I'd like to see some long-term tracking data, but I'm not sure there's been enough time to get that.
